My Morning Turmeric Golden Milk Latte Recipe

While I don't drink coffee, I've always wanted a morning ritual just like coffee drinkers do. Unfortunately the caffeine often gives me a headache and too much energy to function. Instead, at the start of the year I started making turmeric golden milk every morning. I honestly didn't think it would stick around for long (I get bored quickly), but here we are, over a month later and I'm still enjoying my morning turmeric lattes! After a little bit of tinkering, I've finally gotten my go-to recipe down. Here's a run through of the ingredients I use and why.

Almond milk - I make my own almond milk once a week. I've been doing this consistently for several months now and can make it in 5 minutes flat. Fresh made almond milk has so much more flavor, and I can control the quality of the almonds. I like to use organic, raw, unpasteurized almonds grown in California. Sometimes I mix it up and make cashew milk, coconut milk, or oat milk, but my stand by is almond.

Turmeric blended with black pepper and cinnamon - One of the main benefits of consuming turmeric is the chemical compound curcumin, which may help reduce inflammation. Black pepper in conjunction with turmeric can boost the bioavailability of curcumin, meaning your body can utilize more of its benefits! The cinnamon is for mostly for flavor, but it is also high in antioxidants.

Ashwagandha - Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, a substance that can help the body handle stress and energy levels. It can aid in decreasing anxiety, boost immunity, and decrease coritsol. In Ayurveda, is also particularly good for balancing my vata dosha.

Collagen peptides - While collagen boasts a long list of benefits including joint health, bone strength, improved gut health and digestion, I admittedly use this for the benefit of my skin. I've noticed my face has more resiliency and elasticity, and appears more plump and glowy (without increasing water intake). Collagen peptides has the same benefits of gelatin, but easily dissolves in any liquid.

So, how does this drink make me feel? I love the ritual of mixing everything in the morning. I love the rich frothiness from the collagen. I've noticed a slight decrease in stress (ask my husband, I worry about everything, all the time.) My skin has also significantly cleared up with a lot less redness (inflammation) and my pores appear smaller!
